Curriculum, Learning,
Teaching & Assessment

The Curriculum, Learning, Teaching & Assessment Workstream aims to grow an empowered learning system which provides the best possible curriculum for children and young people. It also aims to ensure this learning system delivers excellent approaches to learning, teaching and assessment for all.
It aims to:
We are working to achieve this through a wide variety of activities including:
Planning for Effective Learning, Teaching & Assessment

Planning for Effective Learning, Teaching & Assessment

The West Partnership is striving to develop an empowered system which supports practitioners and leaders to develop consistently accurate professional judgement.

Our aim is to support practitioners to develop high quality learning, teaching and assessment opportunities which will improve attainment and achievement for all. By developing professional learning opportunities for all and allowing opportunities for practitioners to participate in evidence based collaborative moderation activities within and beyond their setting we will achieve excellence within Scottish education.

Curriculum Networks

Curriculum Networks

The West Partnership has created Curriculum Networks for a growing number of secondary school curriculum areas.

These are led by a core group of subject practitioners, supported by West Partnership, Education Scotland and local authority staff. The networks facilitate professional learning and networking opportunities.

At present initial meetings have taken place in the following subject areas and Microsoft TEAM has been created as a platform for collaboration.

The vision is to empower practitioners to collaborate in ways that will reduce work load, improve practice and build capacity – which will have a positive impact on young people.

Volunteer Lead

An opportunity for a practitioner volunteer/PT or on the ground innovator has been created to act as a link between the subject networks and West Partnership Development Officer – with a view to the self-sustainability of the networks and empowerment of practitioners. We have volunteer leads in place for the majority of curriculum areas. However, we will welcome more volunteers – having a team of leads per curriculum is providing very beneficial. Therefore, we welcome new expressions of interest.

Future Network meetings will offer opportunities for collaboration and development of practitioner knowledge over themes agreed by network participants.

In order to create a more empowered curriculum which extends and improves the range of curricular pathways, the Curriculum, Learning, Teaching & Assessment Workstream has:

Partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful: Upstream Battle Professional Learning Programme

Partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful: Upstream Battle Professional Learning Programme

Building on the success of our Stem the Flow’ collaboration in 2018-19, the West Partnership’s collaboration with Keep Scotland Beautiful and Education Scotland continued in session 2019-2020 with the Upstream Battle Professional Learning Programme.

This programme provides professional learning for practitioners in Early Years, Primary, Secondary and ASN establishments. Focused on the River Clyde and its tributaries, Upstream Battle aims to raise awareness, gather evidence and inspire action to prevent marine litter at source. Communities, individuals, schools and the private and public sector are all encouraged to work towards one common goal: to stop litter from getting into the Clyde.

Available for teachers across the West Partnership Collaborative, the aim of the Upstream Battle Professional Learning Programme (PLP) is to develop confidence in delivering on each pupil’s entitlement to Learning for Sustainability (LfS) and build STEM skills through the context of source to sea litter. The PLP is delivered through a blended learning model combining four face to face twilight sessions and online learning. An interdisciplinary approach supports skills in enquiry-based learning.
